Missions

Our Motive for Missions

The opportunity to be a part of God’s work around the world is both a privilege and a command. Every Christian is commissioned by God to verbally share the gospel as we “go” through life (Matthew 28:19-20). Some are called to “go” to a foreign mission field. Partnering with others does not negate our personal obligation to share the gospel but, rather, extends our ability to share the gospel beyond our “Jerusalem.”

Our Missionary Partners

Most of our missionary partners have their own websites with lots of information about their ministries. Please click on the missionary pictures to learn more about them and their ministry.

History of Missions at EBC

Since its beginning, Emmanuel Baptist Church has had a heart for worldwide evangelism. When only two months old, in June of 1970, the church began supporting its first missionary, Wanda Maxfield, and also began supporting the International Board of Jewish Missions.

Additional missionaries and ministries have been added regularly as the church has grown and continued its burden for missions over the years.

Missions Committee

The members of the missions committee are appointed by the pastor.

They are responsible to research and learn about the various missionaries. Based upon their knowledge, they make recommendations to the pastor and deacons about the support that is given to current missionaries, as well as taking on new missionaries. Those currently serving on the missions committee are: Dale and Paula Weatherill and Dave Fry.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Faith Promise Giving

Faith promise is a way for us to obey God in fulfilling His commission of worldwide work starting personally in our “Jerusalem” and partnering with others in going to the “uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

How does Faith Promise Giving work?

Faith promise giving is a sacrificial offering given above and beyond the tithe to support the work of missions around the world. It is promising to give, in dependence upon God, an amount specifically for missions that is supplied through usual income, personal sacrifice, gifts, or other financial blessings, which God gives.

Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; 4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. (2 Corinthians 8:1-4)

Faith Promise Giving at Emmanuel

In 2003, Emmanuel Baptist Church began supporting our missionaries through faith promise giving. We started supporting some of our missionaries through the faith promise fund, while still supporting some through the general fund. By 2008, all of our missionaries were supported through faith promise.

Since 2008, our church budget has been structured to fund our missions program soley through the faith promise amount that is pledged. We desire to give each of our current missionaries at least a cost of living adjustment or even a raise! If more funds are pledged, we desire to have more missionaries present their ministries in our church and consider financially supporting them.
